RedTail Lake parcels include much more than lakefront living. Butte County's #1 industry is Agriculture. Current agriculture plans include permanent crop plantings. Our first lake project in Glenn County California took advantage on the soil type, climate, and limited water to choose a drought resistant permanent super high density olive orchard planting. The Arbequina variety was chosen for its flavor and high quality extra virgin oil. The planting was completed in the Fall 0f 2008 and more information and photos can be found at http://www.redrocklakeorland.com

Similar orchard plans have been planned out for Red Tail Lake. Parcel Owners can either lease their land to an experienced farmer or choose to put their land in production on their own. Agricultural use of the available land to take advantage of sustainable water system is highly recommended. Currently Red Tail Lake is under two different forage crops on the surrounding property. One is a forage mix of Oats. Wheat and other grains and grasses, while the other forage on the adjoining parcels is alfalfa. With the forage mix coming off late, the planned sunflower crop will not happen. We are now contemplating some alternative cover crops before installing olives this fall or in the spring of 2010.
